Currently on hiatus as I adjust to life with my new son.
I have watched my husband paint and play miniatures for quite a few years and have always sat back and thought ‘that’s not for me’. However thanks to Dawn of War 2: Retribution on PC I have been introduced to the Eldar race – and all of a sudden I’m interested.
I’ve always loved the art in 40k not only in the licensed products (miniatures and printed material) but particularly that produced by the community. There is some fantastic fan art out there. My hard drive is full of images from DeviantArt.
A good portion of the artwork has driven me to find out more about various characters and races.
I’ve really been drawn in by the actual story of 40k. There are licensed books set in the universe which I enjoy (once I know a bit about the races or periods in time), but the basic story of the Warhammer 40k universe, with all its races and overlapping histories is such a rich one; well-formulated and intriguing.
The more I have delved into 40k, the more I have thought how odd it is that it’s seen as such a nerdy subsection of the geek institution – simply because it’s not as popular as wizards or medieval culture or Star Wars.
For now I’m happy to sit back and be a spectator in terms of painting but things might change. I enjoy playing Space Hulk and would like to have a go at the tabletop game – perhaps once I get into that I will want to start building and customizing my own armies.
My birthday present this year was a very attractive Catwoman statuette, which I’m absolutely in love with.
I’ve always been a Batman fan but thanks to Michelle Pfeiffer, have thought Catwoman was a bit lame. Not anymore!
The latest playable character announcement in Batman Arkham City is looking rather attractive.
I’ve had this stuck in my head for the last week or so.
If you haven’t watched The Guild, you really should check it out. It’s a hilarious take on gaming culture (particularly MMOs). While I don’t play MMOs I can definitely see traits within the characters that I know both I and people I know possess.
Even the music video reminds me of the great care I take in choosing my avatars in games – and even the lengths I go to in real life to make myself look like my favourite video game characters! The poor hairdresser – trying to match up the colours she has with the picture of Heavenly Sword or Shae Vizla I’ve produced.

Tron: Legacy has not received a lot in the way of positive reviews since its release last month.
‘A feast for eyes and ears’ has been the general response – with criticism directed towards its storyline and acting. I do have to agree with that.
But you know what I loved? I loved going back to the world of Tron; going back to the grid. There’s no denying it is a mystical world and quite frankly I was excited the whole time I was there, I didn’t notice the so-called poor acting or lacklustre storyline.

Do you know why Kevin Flynn was so despondent, so tired? Because he’d fought the big battle. He’d put all his energy into it and realised the outcome. He’d been there for 20 years. That’s what happens with perspective – you realise that some things aren’t worth the effort, and sometimes it does take that injection of youth to rediscover the passion that was once there (provided by the arrival of his son Sam and of course the ever-enthusiastic Quorra).
And I giggled every time Kevin used slang from the 80′s like ‘radical’ or ‘far out’. After all, that was the language used the last time he had human contact. Why wouldn’t he talk like that?
I did have one question – if Kevin’s new purpose was in protecting Quorra as the last remaining ISO, what was his intention with training her as his apprentice? It’s not like she can breed with any other ISOs (something to be revealed in any potential sequels).
By the way, I didn’t have a problem with Clu’s appearance looking computer generated. He’s a program.
I loved the modern yet simplistic set design; the costumes and characterisation (for obvious reasons); and the new design of the grid, with ramps for the light cycles and whatnot. Everything had been modernised since the first movie but it wasn’t over the top and impractical. This is a computer we are looking at. Things need to be efficient.
It was my idea of a perfect Sci-Fi world.

We all want to add some personalisation to our wedding. It’s a celebration of you as a couple. You’re celebrating with the people who have helped you become you. So why not add a reflection of your personal style? It’s not unheard of to have a canine groomsman. The bride loves hot pink – so guess what colour the boys’ ties are (much to their disgust)? Choreographed wedding dance for the salsa dancing couple? What about an Eiffel Tower themed cake? Why is it cool for the “regular” people to do their thing but we can’t do ours without getting the inevitable eye roll?
There are comic invitations, Master Chief celebrants, CAT5 his and hers wedding rings and of course Star Wars themed weddings. Ok so we all love having a laugh at these guys. But good on them, they’re having a great time.
You could put that subtle touch in your day and have a Van Gough cake. Fingerprint wedding rings (your partner’s fingerprint is on the inside)? How about USB wedding favours?
OffBeatBride has some great ideas for geeks – and other non traditionalists – wanting to break the mould. Have a laugh at this site too: How to plan a geeky wedding
As for my wedding that is just under two months away? There will be some geeky touches. But you’ll have to stay tuned for that.
They’ve announced that Angelina Jolie will not be playing Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider movie; the role will be re-cast.
I was not all that upset to hear the news. I love Angelina Jolie, possibly because she was Lara Croft however I feel that there could be someone out there better suited to the role.
Personality-wise, I’m thinking Rosario Dawson, however the producers might go for another good choice, Eva Mendes if they have the budget. I think Eidos did a great job with Tomb Raider Legend in choosing Karima Adebibe as the promo model; her look is spot-on. Even Alison Carroll‘s look for Tomb Raider Underworld is pretty damn close.
The report I heard was that “Angelina Jolie would no longer play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movies.” Does this mean that there are plans for more? I hope they do a decent job and don’t ruin it for us. Sure, the movies aren’t Spiderman quality or even future classics but they were a bit of fun for Lara Croft fans.
Yes, I’m a girl and I love Lara Croft, preferably the pixelated version. What girl wouldn’t want to be a smart, hot chick who can kick butt?
So it appears we have had a zombie outbreak in Sydney. Unfortunately it was in January 2007 and we didn’t hear about it until last month. This is important information!
Apparently the two police officers tried to subdue this so-called average man, who managed to pull a gun from one of the officers and fend off their attacks by flailing his arms in a “circular freestyle motion”. He withstood their struggles and even a bout of capsicum spray and simply walked away from the scuffle.
Now I don’t know about you, but I doubt a zombie would have enough presence of mind to be able to pull an officer’s gun from his holster and hold it up to his stomach. To be able to withstand the scuffle which included a headlock and the capsicum spray…well perhaps he was simply an A-grade footballer out on the town with the lads.
However perhaps it’s time I brushed up on my zombie plan thanks to my recent Amazon purchase). You never know when a zombie uprising will begin. Or if it has already begun…
